How To: Wear a Blanket Scarf

It had me in love at “blanket”. My favorite fashion accessory this year has been the blanket scarf, and I’ve seriously been hand-in-hand with it this entire winter. When I travel, I always carry a blanket scarf with me and use it as a blanket! Why is it that it’s always so cold on airplanes?! It has also been perfect for when I’m feeling chilly at the office. I’ve been making use of my blanket scarf in many different ways, including as a fashion accessory.  Although I’ve been bundled up all winter in mine, I think the blanket scarf is a great transition piece for those cooler spring days when it isn’t cold enough for a coat or warm enough for a summer dress.

This large piece of material may seem overwhelming to wear but there are many fashionable options to wear this accessory. I want to share a few of my favorite ways. I’ve grouped them into four main categories: The Belt, The Knot, The Drape and The Wrap.

The Belt:

1. The Belted Poncho – Using a rectangular blanket scarf, fold the scarf in a triangle. Then, wrap the scarf around your shoulders. Lastly, using a belt of your choice, belt the scarf around your waist.

2. The Neck Belt – First, fold your blanket scarf into a thin rectangle. Next, wrap the scarf around your neck. Ready for a HAZ tip? I like to adjust my scarf so that I am forming a high collar. Then, using a belt of your choice, belt the scarf around your waist. If it’s still chilly wear you live, throw on a trench coat. The belted scarf underneath will look beautiful!

The Knot:

1. The Knotted Infinity – First, fold your blanket scarf into a thin rectangle. Next, drape the scarf around your neck allowing the ends to hang in equal length on both sides. Then, wrap both ends around your neck and tie the ends into a knot. Here’s another HAZ tip! Tie the very ends of the scarf for a smaller knot. Depending on your knot and personal preference, you can wear the scarf as loose or tight as desired! Last, tuck the knot away.

2. The Off-The-Shoulder – Using a rectangular blanket scarf, fold the scarf in a triangle. Next, drape the bigger side on one shoulder allowing the ends to fall across your body. Then, tie the ends into a small knot. Place the knot on the other shoulder. Adjust the fabric as needed.

The Drape:

1. The Chic Cape – Using a rectangular blanket scarf, fold the scarf in a triangle. Then, drape the scarf around your neck allowing the ends to fall for an effortless, but chic look!

2. The Superman – Using a rectangular blanket scarf, fold the scarf in a triangle. Next, drape the scarf around your neck allowing the ends to fall. Then, right at the belly button height, tie the ends into a knot to take this look from chic to superman chic!

3. The Snowman – First, fold your blanket scarf into a thin rectangle. Next, drape the scarf around your neck allowing the ends to hang. Have one side of the scarf hang longer than the other. Here’s another HAZ tip! If you are using a scarf that has a different pattern on the other side, twist the fabric so that when you place it across the opposite shoulder it peeks through!

The Wrap:

1. The Pull Through – First, fold your blanket scarf into a thin rectangle. Next, drape the scarf around your neck allowing the ends to hang in equal length on both sides. Then, wrap both ends around your neck. Wrap both ends around your neck. Last, pull the ends through the opening of the scarf.
